Consent on Click
What it is
Lets you treat a click anywhere outside the banner as a positive consent—the same as pressing the banner’s “Accept” action.
What happens when enabled
- A first click on the page outside the banner records consent at the current default Access Level and Purposes shown on load.
- Cookie Compliance writes the consent cookie, updates autoblocking (unblocks allowed tags), and sends signals to integrations (Google/Microsoft/Facebook consent modes).
Why/when to use it
- In opt-out jurisdictions (e.g., many U.S. state laws like CCPA/CPRA), capturing consent on outside click can reduce friction and maintain analytics continuity.
- In opt-in jurisdictions (e.g., EU/EEA/UK under GDPR + ePrivacy), regulators expect an explicit affirmative action (e.g., pressing a button). An outside-banner click is not an affirmative choice.
Compliance note
Consent on Click must be disabled for GDPR, UK PECR, LGPD, and POPIA compliance — treating a click outside the banner as consent does not meet the requirement for an explicit, affirmative choice. It is only appropriate in opt-out jurisdictions where consent is not legally required.
