UI Blocking
What it is
UI Blocking turns the banner into a full-page overlay that prevents interaction with your site until the visitor makes a choice (Accept / Reject / Save preferences).
How it works
- The banner covers the viewport and captures clicks/keystrokes.
-
Page content behind the overlay stays inert: no clicks, no forms, no navigation.
When the visitor confirms a choice, Cookie Compliance:
- Stores consent in the browser (and logs it in the app when your plan allows),
- Applies autoblocking rules according to the selected Access Level and Purposes,
- Updates integrations (Google/Microsoft/Facebook consent modes).
- If the visitor later revokes consent or the Duration expires, the banner can re-appear; with UI Blocking enabled, the page remains blocked again until a new choice is saved.
Note: Because the overlay intercepts input, Consent on Click and Consent on Scroll don’t apply while the UI is blocked.
Compliance note
Under GDPR, UK PECR, and POPIA, consent must be a freely given, affirmative action. Keep UI Blocking disabled in these regions — forcing interaction with the banner before any choice is made does not meet that standard. UI Blocking is only appropriate where consent is not legally required.
