Customizing Banner Design

Applies to: WordPress Plugin + Admin Portal

WP Admin: Cookie Consent tab > Banner Design
Portal: app.hu-manity.co > Configuration > Design

On a connected site the options below are set in the Admin Portal on Configuration → Design. An unconnected Banner Only site has a shorter Banner Design section in WordPress admin under Compliance → Cookie Consent tab: the banner message and button texts, Banner Position (Top or Bottom), Dismiss Animation, and background, text and button colors. These options shape the banner’s look and movement without touching code.

Position (layout on the page)

Choose where the banner appears on screen:

  • Top or Bottom – the banner sits at the top or bottom edge of the viewport and does not scroll with the page.
  • Left or Right – side tray panels that float over content.
  • Popup – a centered modal (Professional plan only). The modal overlays the page and draws immediate attention.

Separately, pick a display type: Floating (sized to its content; the default) or Fixed (full width at the top or bottom, full height at the left or right).

Pick a position that doesn’t collide with your site header or chat widgets.

Update consent icon placement

Show the fingerprint Update consent icon and place it at Bottom Left or Bottom Right. If you prefer your own control, set Update consent method to Manual on Configuration → Behavior and wire a custom trigger.

Toolbar (brand + quick actions)

Toggle Show Toolbar. The toolbar displays the site identity and quick actions like expand and proof-of-consent access. Hide it for ultra-minimal layouts, or keep it to surface trust signals. On the New engine, switching it off only hides the site name, and it does nothing on the Compact style.

Duration selector (visitor-controlled)

Toggle Show Duration to let visitors choose how long their consent should last from the durations you enabled. If you remove it, the banner still applies your default duration.

Animation (how the banner arrives)

Choose Fade, Slide or None and set the speed (speed has no effect on None). Smooth motion draws attention without feeling intrusive; match speed to your site’s UI rhythm.

Colors (brand match and clarity)

Set the palette so the banner fits your brand and remains readable:

  • Primary Color – buttons and active elements
  • Border Color – outlines and inactive elements
  • Level 1 / 2 / 3 Colors – bullets for Private, Balanced, Personalized
  • Background – banner background
  • Headline – title text
  • Text – body copy
  • Button Text – button labels

Aim for strong contrast for accessibility and legibility.

Font sizes (hierarchy and readability)

Adjust Headline and Text sizes so the title leads and copy stays readable on mobile. Keep line lengths comfortable in side trays and popups.

Configuring Banner Design in the Admin Portal

The Admin Portal at app.hu-manity.co → Configuration → Design provides the full set of banner design options, including several that are not available in the WordPress admin:

  • Additional positions — Left and Right side-tray panels, plus a centered Popup modal (available on every plan in the portal; not set in the WordPress admin).
  • Explicit display type — Choose Floating (sized to its content) or Fixed (full width at the top or bottom, full height at the left or right) directly.
  • Icon margins — Fine-tune the Update consent icon’s position with pixel-level margin controls.

After making changes in the portal, click Publish Now. Then in WordPress admin, click Pull latest settings in the domain card sidebar (or wait: publishing normally reaches the plugin within seconds, and it re-syncs every 12 hours) to apply the portal settings to your site.

The Banner engine dropdown in the Configuration header, at the top of every Configuration page, picks which build of the banner your site loads: Classic (v1) or New (v2). Both record consent and block trackers before consent. Sites added from the dashboard, the WordPress plugin (version 3.1.13 or later) or an AI assistant start on New; existing sites keep their engine, and you can switch back at any time.

Admin Portal — confirm dialog for switching the banner engine

  • Switching asks you to confirm and goes live right away. You are asked "Switch this site to the New engine?" before anything changes, and it is not part of the page's Publish Now.
  • WordPress plugin sites pick up the change on the plugin's next check-in. If the site's plugin is older than 3.1.11, or its version cannot be read, the switch to New is refused until the plugin is updated. With plugin 3.1.13 or later, the plugin tells you once that the engine changed and offers to purge your page cache so visitors get the new banner.
  • Settings the New engine does not use are hidden, not lost. On a New-engine site the Admin Portal does not show them (for example consent on close, click or scroll, UI blocking and the Privacy Paper). Switching back to Classic brings them back with their saved values. One exception: if the issues-to-fix list on Configuration names one of these settings (a scroll, click or close setting, or the cookie wall, also called UI blocking), its switch is still shown, dimmed and with a note, so you can turn it off. The note says the New engine ignores it, but it still applies if your site loads the Classic snippet or an older WordPress plugin.
  • Snippet added by hand? The script address changes with the engine (the New engine's address contains /v2/). Copy the updated snippet from Integrations and replace the old one, including when you switch back.
  • Banner style (New engine only, set on Configuration → Design; on a connected WordPress site you can also choose it under Compliance → Cookie Consent tab → Your banner): Standard shows the site's domain, the heading, the message and every consent level. Compact puts the heading in the top row and offers Private and Personalized on the banner; every category is still under Customize. With the banner fixed to the top or bottom on a wide screen, Compact is a single row. In the portal, banner style goes live when you publish, like the rest of the page; in WordPress, choosing a style publishes it right away.
